D'Tigress Touch Down in Berlin for 2026 FIBA Women's World Cup

D'Tigress touched down in Berlin to finalize their preparations for the 2026 FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup, following completion of a training camp held in Zaragoza, Spain. Rena Wakama, the head coach, unveiled a 12-player squad combining seasoned performers with promising newcomers as the reigning African champions gear up for their third World Cup appearance.

Amy Okonkwo will captain the team throughout the tournament, which takes place from September 4 to 13. Two roster members bring previous World Cup experience to the competition: Ezinne Kalu and Promise Amukamara participated in the 2018 tournament, becoming the first players from Nigeria to compete at two editions of the FIBA Women's Basketball World Cup.

Prior World Cup appearances for Nigeria occurred in 2006 and 2018. Senator Ita Enang, Nigeria's Ambassador to Germany, along with staff from the Nigerian diplomatic mission, welcomed the team upon arrival in the German capital.

D'Tigress occupy Group B alongside the Republic of Korea, Hungary, and France. Their opening match pits them against South Korea on September 4.

Before arriving in Germany, the squad competed against Mali and Puerto Rico in Spain, gaining valuable match experience as part of their final preparation phase. As a five-time African champion, Nigeria approaches this competition having established itself as one of Africa's premier basketball programs.

The World Cup campaign offers an opportunity for the squad to leverage its continental success and compete at the highest international level.
