Duke Asidere Presents Matt Ehizele's Heart of Steel Exhibition

Renowned Nigerian artist Duke Asidere will present a landmark solo exhibition titled Udu Umadon (Heart of Steel) by acclaimed sculptor Matt Ehizele at the National Museum, Onikan, Lagos, from July 18 to 25, 2026. This exhibition celebrates Ehizele’s artistic journey and his significant contributions to contemporary Nigerian sculpture through a collection of steel works that express humanity, culture, resilience, and identity.

The title Udu Umadon, an Edo phrase meaning "Heart of Steel," encapsulates Ehizele’s artistic philosophy. Over four decades, he has transformed discarded industrial materials into elegant figurative sculptures that embody strength and cultural pride.

The exhibition reflects a mentorship and artistic relationship between Asidere and Ehizele, emphasizing the importance of celebrating master artists. Visitors will encounter sculptures that explore themes such as family, femininity, leadership, and spirituality.

Asidere remarked on Ehizele’s ability to transform ordinary materials into extraordinary experiences, highlighting the exhibition as a tribute to Nigerian creativity.
