Olumide Oresegun Unveils "Threads of Heritage" in Lagos

Olumide Oresegun has returned to Lagos for his fourth solo exhibition, "Threads of Heritage," which opened at Mydrim Gallery in Ikoyi on July 18 and will run until August 8. This exhibition marks a significant new chapter for Oresegun, whose artistic practice has evolved beyond his acclaimed water series.

He gained international recognition after his oil painting of children playing in the rain went viral on social media in 2016. Oresegun's work is characterized by hyperrealism, showcasing extraordinary precision in capturing the movement and transparency of water.

In this exhibition, he shifts focus from water to explore themes of memory and cultural identity, using textiles as symbols of heritage. The exhibition invites viewers to contemplate human experiences and familial bonds, emphasizing the resilience of cultural identity over time.

Oresegun has spent years refining his techniques in his Ikorodu studio, opting to develop his practice rather than repeat past successes. His work continues to attract attention from collectors and the global art community.
