Troops on Alert for Easter Amid US Military Support

The Defence Headquarters (DHQ) has placed troops on nationwide alert in preparation for the Easter celebrations, aiming to ensure heightened security and prevent any potential breaches during this holiday period. Maj Gen Michael Onoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, reassured citizens of the military's vigilance, noting that similar measures were implemented during previous festive seasons, including Christmas and Eid el-Fitr.

He emphasized that security agencies will not relax their efforts despite the celebrations, as adversaries often attempt to exploit such periods. Additionally, Maj Gen Onoja discussed the ongoing collaboration with US forces, highlighting that while the immediate impact of this partnership may not be visible, benefits are expected to manifest in the coming weeks and months.

He confirmed the arrival of approximately 100 US military personnel at Bauchi Airfield on February 16, 2026, who are in Nigeria strictly for technical assistance and advisory roles in counter-terrorism efforts.
