Nigerian Military on Nationwide Alert for Easter Security

The Nigerian military has announced a nationwide alert for troops in preparation for the Easter celebrations to ensure there are no security breaches during this festive period. Major General Michael Onoja, the Director of Defence Media Operations, made this announcement during a briefing held in Abuja on Tuesday. He explained that military personnel have already been placed on high alert, a standard procedure during major celebrations such as Christmas and Easter. The military is particularly cautious as criminal groups often exploit festive periods. Troops have been instructed to remain vigilant at all times. Major General Onoja also highlighted the ongoing partnership with the United States, which includes intelligence sharing and training for Nigerian troops to enhance operational effectiveness. However, he noted that specific details regarding this partnership cannot be disclosed due to security reasons. The military believes that this cooperation will improve their operational capabilities, with results expected to become clearer in the coming weeks and months.
