Ebi Egbe Advocates for Quality Pitches in Nigerian Football

Ebi Egbe, the CEO of Monimichelle Sports Facilities Construction Ltd, expressed that Nigeria cannot demand European-standard football quality from its players while providing them with inadequate facilities. Speaking after the Super Eagles' 2-1 victory against Madagascar in the 2027 AFCON qualifiers at the Godswill Akpabo International Stadium in Uyo, Egbe highlighted the importance of proper pitch conditions.

He stated that not every green space qualifies as a football pitch and emphasized that quality pitches must meet specific performance criteria. Egbe argued that if Nigeria aims to develop elite footballers and improve the Super Eagles, pitch quality must be prioritized as a fundamental aspect of national team strategy.

He pointed out that players returning from abroad often face inconsistent playing conditions in Nigeria, which should concern sports administrators. Egbe concluded that the focus should be on the performance quality of playing surfaces rather than merely their appearance.
