Anambra State Monitors Seven for Ebola After Abuja Case

Following a reported case of Ebola in Abuja, the Anambra State government has initiated monitoring of seven persons of interest as part of its public health response. Dr Afam Obidike, the state Commissioner for Health, announced during a press briefing in Awka that the state has zero reported cases of Ebola.
The monitoring process is designed to identify symptoms early and reduce transmission risks, with surveillance officials active in various public areas. Individuals under monitoring are not confirmed cases and should not be stigmatized.
As of October 20, 2026, Anambra has followed up with 40 persons of interest, with 33 cleared and seven remaining under active follow-up, all of whom are stable. The state has also engaged in preparedness training led by the NCDC to enhance the monitoring process.
The Ministry of Health urges residents to remain calm and vigilant while cooperating with health authorities.
