NCDC Monitors 53 Ebola Contacts, Offers N100,000 Support
The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC) is currently monitoring 53 primary contacts related to Nigeria's confirmed Ebola case. Dr Jide Idris, the Director-General of the NCDC, announced this during a briefing in Abuja.
The agency has approved a weekly payment of N100,000 per person to support individuals placed under isolation or quarantine as part of the containment efforts in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT). Of the 53 primary contacts, 44 are linked to the health facility where the patient was treated, while nine others were identified outside the facility, including three household members and individuals who attended to her in an emergency room prior to her confirmed infection.
The patient, a woman who traveled from Uganda, developed symptoms on October 7 and sought medical attention on October 11. Investigations are ongoing to trace additional contacts and ensure proper monitoring of all individuals who may have been exposed.
