Ebonyi Assembly Commends Nwifuru for Education Investments

The Ebonyi State House of Assembly committee on education, led by Barr. Aloysius Nwodo, praised Governor Francis Ogbonna Nwifuru for his significant investments in the education sector during an oversight visit to the Ebonyi State College of Education in Ikwo.

Nwodo, representing the Ebonyi North West constituency, noted the governor's efforts, which include substantial investments in educational infrastructure, regular payment of institutional subventions, and the awarding of scholarships to 500 students pursuing five-year degree programs. The committee acknowledged the college's expansion to 36 academic programs and the enrollment of 597 students.

Major projects executed include modern hostels accommodating 300 female and 350 male students, a state-of-the-art ICT center, and perimeter fencing. Despite these advancements, Provost Prof.

Benedict Mbam identified challenges such as the absence of official vehicles and low student enrollment. Dr.

Emmanuel Uduma, Dean of the Faculty of Education, appealed for the state government to gazette college employees to enable pension benefits upon retirement.
