Five Dead, Twelve Injured in Ebonyi Road Accident

On Friday, a tragic road accident occurred in Ebonyi State, resulting in the deaths of five individuals, including one female child, and injuring twelve others. The incident took place on the Enugu-Abakaliki federal highway near Nkalagu, Ishielu Local Government Area.

Daniel Asanya, the sector commander of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) in Ebonyi, confirmed that the accident involved a commercial white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number RSH 231 XE, carrying 17 passengers, which included 12 males and four females. The crash was attributed to a violation of speed limits.

Emergency responders recovered items from the crash scene, including three mobile phones and two bags of rice. The injured were transported to a hospital in Enugu for treatment, while the deceased were deposited in a morgue.

Asanya urged drivers to exercise caution, especially in areas undergoing construction and maintenance work, and advised that proper signage should be placed to alert motorists.
