Ebonyi Man Arraigned for Allegedly Killing Mother

Ofobuik Damian, a 30-year-old man, appeared in Magistrate Court II in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State, facing a murder charge for allegedly stabbing his mother, Onyema Damian, to death. The incident reportedly occurred on March 19, 2026, in Ohatekw, Ukawu, within the Onicha Local Government Area of Ebonyi State.

The prosecutor, Mr. David Njoku, a Senior State Counsel, informed the court that the defendant committed the offense by stabbing his mother in the back, an act punishable under Section 319 of the Criminal Code, Cap 33, Vol 1, Law of Ebonyi State 2009.

Damian, who did not have legal representation, admitted to the crime but expressed uncertainty about the events leading to the killing, stating he could not remember the incident clearly. Chief Magistrate Mr.

Chinedu Agama ordered that the defendant be remanded in custody, noting that the court lacked jurisdiction to entertain the matter.
