EBSIEC Promises Credible Local Government Elections in Ebonyi

Mr. Collins Agbo, the Chairman of the Ebonyi State Independent Electoral Commission (EBSIEC), assured political parties and stakeholders during a meeting in Abakaliki that the local government elections scheduled for August 22, 2026, will be free, fair, and credible.

He urged cooperation from all parties to ensure a transparent electoral process. Agbo praised Governor Francis Nwifuru for supporting the commission's independence.

The Commissioner for Logistics and Field Operations, Mr. Hyacinth Nwoba, confirmed that all election materials have been procured for distribution across the state's 171 electoral wards and 2,947 polling units.

Barrister Sunday Odunwa, the Commissioner for Legal and Security, warned against voter intimidation and electoral offences, emphasizing the need for peaceful campaigns. He reminded political parties that wearing party insignia 24 hours before the election is prohibited.

Other commissioners, including Mr. Irem Okechukwu and Dr.

Emmanuel Ibiam, assured stakeholders of the commission's neutrality and readiness for the elections, with officials deployed to all polling units from 7:00 a.m. on election day.
