Edo Court Acquits DHL Manager Nuhu Omokid of Charges

The Edo State High Court, presided over by Justice E.G. Adekanmbi, acquitted Nuhu Omokid, the head of DHL in Benin City, of five counts related to the alleged theft and mismanagement of a parcel destined for the United Kingdom.

The court ruled that there was no substantial evidence to support the claims against Omokid, who had been previously convicted by a lower court on July 22, 2023. The trial court's judgment was found to lack proof of any criminal acts committed by Omokid, as the prosecution failed to demonstrate negligence or wrongdoing beyond a reasonable doubt.

Consequently, the court set aside the earlier conviction, discharged Omokid, and ordered a refund of the N250,000 fine imposed on him. The judgment highlighted that corporate entities, like DHL, cannot hold individuals liable for actions unless specific criminal acts are proven against them.
