Edo Governor Okpebholo Enhances IVF Services in Edo State

On July 20, 2026, Edo State Governor Enat Mondai Okpebholo announced the acquisition of in vitro fertilization (IVF) equipment for the Edo Specialist Hospital located in Benin City. This initiative aims to support couples battling infertility and expand access to reproductive healthcare across the state.

Dr. Anthonia Inibokun Njoku, Chief Medical Director of the hospital, described the governor's intervention as a significant boost to healthcare delivery, providing fresh hope to couples facing challenges with natural conception.

The IVF facility will enable the hospital to offer specialized fertility services to families seeking medical support. Additionally, the hospital recently secured accreditation for its Family Medicine and Dentistry departments.

Dr. Njoku attributed the institution's achievements to sustained support from the state government.

Governor Okpebholo also approved the absorption of 126 contract staff into the Edo State workforce and authorized the recruitment of additional healthcare personnel, resulting in 290 direct employment opportunities at the hospital. Furthermore, the Edo Specialist Hospital entered a memorandum of understanding with Mudiam University Irrua to train medical students, enhancing the hospital's capacity to deliver quality healthcare services.
