Edo Security Squad Arrests 12 Suspected Cultists

The Edo State security squad arrested 12 suspected cultists during a raid on Sunday, following intelligence reports linking them to violent crimes, including the killing of a student near the University of Benin. The operation was led by Chief Security Officer Mondai Okpebholo and involved the Anti-Cultism Unit of the Nigeria Police Force.

The arrests took place across various hotspots in Benin City, including Ekosodin, Isihor, and Ugbowo. Spokesperson Noah Idemudia stated that the suspects were not directly linked to the murder but were identified as members of different cult groups, with incriminating items found in their possession.

The Edo State Government has warned that anyone found in possession of illegal weapons will be held responsible. Additionally, Idemudia cautioned against any plans for cult anniversary celebrations, stating that security agencies are on alert to prevent unlawful gatherings.
