Edo Security Squad Arrests 12 Cultists in Benin Raids

On May 10, 2026, the Edo State security squad, led by Chief Security Officer Mondai Okpebholo, arrested 12 suspected cultists during coordinated raids across various locations in Benin City. This operation was a response to the recent killing of a young man near the University of Benin.

The raids took place in areas including Ekosodin, Isihor Old Road, S.T. Barrack, Airport Road, 19th Street Ugbowo, Ogba Evbuodia, and Evbuomor Quarter.

Noah Idemudia, spokesperson for the security squad, stated that the suspects were allegedly identified as members of different cult groups. The operation uncovered cult symbols and incriminating materials, leading to further investigations by the anti-cultism unit of the Edo State Police Command.

Additionally, two properties linked to cult activities were sealed, and their owners were invited for questioning. The Edo State government has warned against the sponsorship of cultism and violent crime, urging immediate cessation of such activities.
