Edo Police Arrest Two Suspected Cultists in Benin City

On May 21, 2026, at approximately 19:00 hours, the Edo State Police Command arrested two suspected cultists identified as Victor Peter, 21 years old, and Iyemoma Ogbew, 35 years old. The arrests occurred in Ohonr Community off Adolor College Road in Benin City, following a distress report concerning the movement and gathering of suspected cult members in the area.

The Ugbowo Division's surveillance patrol responded promptly to the report, leading to the location of the suspects. Upon sighting the police, the suspects attempted to flee, but the police team gave chase, resulting in their arrest.

A search of the suspects revealed a cut-to-size gun believed to be in their unlawful possession. During investigations, the suspects confessed to being members of the notorious Maphit cult group.

The Commissioner of Police, Mondai Agbonika, commended the swift response of the operation and reiterated the command's commitment to denying criminal elements opportunities within Edo State, urging residents to continue providing credible information to the police.
