Edo Police Arrest Two Suspected Cultists in Benin City

On May 21, 2026, the Edo State Police Command conducted an operation in response to a distress report about a suspected cultists' gathering in the Ohonr Community, off Adolor College Road, Benin City. The operation, led by Eno Ikoedem, resulted in the arrest of two suspects, Victor Peter, aged 21, and Iyemoma Ogbew, aged 35.

The police were alerted to the movement of suspected cult members and, upon arrival, the suspects attempted to flee but were apprehended after a chase. During the search, officers recovered a cut-size gun believed to be in unlawful possession.

Following interrogation, the suspects confessed to being members of the notorious Maphit cult group. The police are continuing efforts to identify and apprehend other fleeing gang members.

Ikoedem commended the swift response of the police and urged residents to provide credible information to assist in tackling criminal activities in the state.
