Edo Seeks Collaboration to Protect Fiber Infrastructure

Mr. Eghosa Urhoghid, the Managing Director of the Edo State Information and Communication Technology Agency (EDOICTA), emphasized the need for stronger collaboration among government institutions and telecommunications operators to protect Nigeria's fiber infrastructure. During a panel session at the Technical Standards and Infrastructure Resilience Forum, Urhoghid highlighted the importance of safeguarding fiber infrastructure to accelerate broadband penetration and improve digital connectivity across the country.

He addressed the challenges posed by fiber cable cuts and infrastructure damage, advocating for a coordinated approach involving key government agencies, particularly the Ministry responsible for road maintenance. Urhoghid noted that EDOICTA has implemented measures to improve communication with telecom operators, especially during road construction projects, to reduce accidents and damage to underground fiber cables.

He warned against poor installation practices that expose critical infrastructure to frequent damage, urging for stronger regulatory oversight and compliance with technical standards to ensure sustainable broadband development in Edo State.
