UNIBEN Student Killed in Cultist Attack; Three Injured

On Monday, a violent attack occurred at approximately 6 PM along Benin-Lagos Road, directly in front of the University of Benin (UNIBEN). A student identified as Alexand, who was driving a Mercedes Benz GLK, was shot dead by suspected cultists.

The attack involved masked gunmen in an unregistered white Mercedes Benz GLK, who opened fire on Alexand's vehicle at close range, targeting the driver's side. Alexand was a student in the Political Science department and had reportedly completed an examination just an hour before the attack.

Three other individuals, including a female passerby, were injured during the shooting and were rushed to the University of Benin Teaching Hospital for treatment. Edo State Police spokesperson Eno Ikoedem confirmed the incident and stated that preliminary investigations indicated the victims were intercepted by the gunmen while driving through the university gate.

The police have ordered a full investigation to identify and arrest those responsible for the attack.
