Ghana Defeats Nigeria in Boxing Friendly Ahead of 2026

In a boxing friendly match held at the Accra Sport Stadium, Ghana edged Nigeria with a score of four bouts to three. This event was part of the assessment for both countries' squads ahead of the Commonwealth Games scheduled for July 2026 in Glasgow.

Nigeria's head coach, Anthony Konyegwachi, acknowledged that Nigeria had previously lost to Ghana in 2011 and 2018, indicating the need for continued improvement. Nigerian boxers Kadijat Ajisola and Ramatu Quay secured victories in the bantamweight 54kg contest, winning five bouts to nil against their opponents.

Aishat Gbadamosi also triumphed over Nanci Bamfo in the featherweight 57kg division. However, Nigeria faced defeats in the men's categories, with Bless Orakw unable to compete due to his opponent's absence.

Ghana's Amadu Moham shut Michael Ogunremi in the bantamweight 55kg category, and Ghana maintained control with wins in other divisions. The Nigeria Boxing Federation, represented by vice president Omonlei Imadu, is looking to arrange additional warm-up fixtures as the Commonwealth Games approach.
