Edun Advocates for Fairer Global Finance at G24 Meeting

Wale Edun, the Nigerian Finance Minister and Chairman of the G24, delivered a message at the G24 conference held on the sidelines of the International Monetary Fund and World Bank Spring Meeting in Washington D.C. on Tuesday. He emphasized the urgent need for a fairer global financial architecture amid geopolitical strains and inflationary pressures.

Edun argued for expanding access to affordable finance and enhancing liquidity buffers, advocating for reforms in the international financial system to better reflect the realities of developing economies. He highlighted Nigeria's reform drive, which aims to establish a firm macroeconomic foundation, strengthen policy credibility, and improve the country's capacity to absorb shocks despite ongoing global uncertainties.

Edun noted the importance of tighter coordination across fiscal, monetary, and trade policies, which have already yielded durable economic outcomes. He reaffirmed Nigeria's commitment to maintaining stability and resilience against external shocks while focusing on translating reforms into tangible gains for higher incomes and improved living standards for Nigerians.
