EFCC Arraigns Zhang Wen Hao for Border Cheating

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has arraigned Zhang Wen Hao at the Nasarawa High Court, presided over by Justice Ibrahim Shekarau, for allegedly committing a crime related to border cheating. The charges stem from an incident in March 2023 in Suleja, where Zhang is accused of intending to induce Paul Yichol to open an account with Access Bank PLC, which was purportedly for unlawful activities.

The specific charges include violating Section 320 of the Penal Code Law of Northern Nigeria, with a punishment outlined in Section 322. During the proceedings, Zhang pleaded not guilty to the charges.

Prosecuting counsel Taiwo Aromolaran requested a trial date, while defense counsel Michael Ukatu made an oral application for bail. Justice Shekarau subsequently adjourned the matter until March 12, 2026, to hear the bail application and ordered that the defendant be remanded in EFCC custody.
