EFCC Recovers Over N1.2 Trillion and 10,872 Convictions

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reported the recovery of over N1.233 trillion and an unspecified amount of foreign currency, along with securing 10,872 convictions over a 34-month period from October 1, 2023, to July 31, 2026. This achievement occurred under the leadership of Executive Chairman Ola Olukoyede.
Dele Oyewale, the Commission’s spokesperson, announced these figures during a joint press conference in Abuja with representatives from the Armed Forces of Nigeria and other security agencies. Oyewale also confirmed the discovery of an illegal refinery in the South-West and the arrest of 14 Chinese nationals and a Nigerian for allegedly operating illegal lithium processing plants.
He noted that earlier arrests complicated the apprehension of the illegal refinery's operators, as activities were concentrated in the same area. Although the refinery and its equipment were discovered, no arrests were made during the operation, and investigations are ongoing.
