EFCC Investigates Atiku Abubakar Over Mambilla Deal

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) has reportedly established a dedicated team to investigate individuals, including former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and former Attorney-General Abubakar Malami, over alleged corrupt activities related to the Mambilla deal in Taraba State. The investigation is personally supervised by EFCC Chairman Olanipekun Olukoyede.

This action follows a ruling by an International Arbitration Tribunal under the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC) in Paris on September 17, which rejected a $680 million claim from Sunrise Power and Transmission Company Ltd and ordered it to refund Nigeria's legal costs of $11.8 million. The tribunal's findings implicated several public figures, including Atiku, his ex-wife Jennifer Douglas, and Malami, citing shady dealings.

Notably, a $500,000 payment from Leno Adesanya's offshore account to Douglas was flagged, raising significant concerns. Atiku denied any wrongdoing, while Malami faces severe criticism for his relationship with Adesanya and is already on trial for other charges.
