EFCC Denies Link Between Sting Operation and Student Protest

The Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) issued a statement on Thursday, clarifying that a recent sting operation conducted on March 24, 2026, at the Kwara State Polytechnic in Ilorin was not responsible for a protest by students. The operation resulted in the arrest of six students among 30 suspects involved in internet fraud.

EFCC's Ilorin zonal director, Dele Oyewale, emphasized that the operation was carried out without entering the school premises and did not disrupt academic activities. He stated that circulating videos linking the protest to the EFCC's operation were misleading and misrepresented the facts.

The operation was focused on two buildings suspected of housing internet fraud activities, leading to the recovery of eight vehicles, mobile phones, and laptops. The EFCC reaffirmed its commitment to integrity and transparency in its operations, assuring the public that it would continue to act in the overall interest of Nigerians.
