IG Deploys Police for Eid al-Fitr Security Measures

On Friday, the Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, issued a directive for the nationwide deployment of tactical assets to ensure the safety and security of lives and property during the Eid al-Fitr celebrations. In a statement released by police spokesperson Anthony Placid, Disu extended warm felicitations to the Muslim community across Nigeria, congratulating them on the successful completion of Ramadan.

The directive includes the strategic deployment of tactical teams and intelligence operations, mobilizing special intervention squads and conventional police personnel at Eid prayer grounds and critical infrastructure. The police will also increase their presence at highways, motor parks, and recreation centers to ensure a peaceful and hitch-free celebration.

Furthermore, the Inspector General ordered heightened visible police coordination, patrols, enhanced surveillance operations, and intelligence-led stop-and-search duties to proactively deter criminal activity and respond swiftly to any emerging threats. He urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with law enforcement agencies by promptly reporting any suspicious activities to the nearest police station.
