Yobe State Closes Recreational Centers for Eid Security

The Yobe State Government has announced the temporary closure of recreational centers across the state during the Eid-el-Fitr celebrations, citing security concerns. This directive was issued by Governor Mai Buni and supported by Brigadier General Dahiru Abdussalam, a retired special adviser on security matters.

The statement, released on Wednesday, emphasized that the current security situation does not support large gatherings, especially among young people. Recreational centers in Yobe typically attract large crowds during various religious festivities, including Eid-el-Fitr.

As a result, the celebrations scheduled for March 19 to March 23, 2026, will see these centers closed to ensure safety. Local authorities and security agencies have been instructed to enforce this order, with a focus on compliance across the 17 local government councils in the state.
