Eight Dead, 17 Injured in Katsina Road Crash

On Sunday, a fatal road crash occurred along the Funtua-Katsina highway in Bakori Local Government Area, Katsina State, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals and injuries to 17 others. The accident, which involved a Toyota Hiace commercial bus with registration number 14B 92 TR and an unregistered Bajaj tricycle, took place at approximately 1:32 PM.

According to preliminary investigations by the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), the probable cause of the accident was identified as wrong overtaking. The FRSC received reports of the crash at 1:34 PM, and a rescue team arrived at the scene around 2:04 PM, marking a response time of 30 minutes.

The rescue operation was conducted in collaboration with the community watch corps, and injured victims were evacuated to Bakori Comprehensive Hospital for treatment. The deceased were initially taken to the same hospital before being transferred to the General Hospital in Funtua.

The FRSC has urged motorists to avoid dangerous overtaking and adhere strictly to traffic regulations to prevent such incidents.
