Ten Dead, Six Injured in Ogun Road Crash on Sunday

A fatal road traffic crash occurred on Sunday night, October 8, 2023, at approximately 8:05 PM on the Ibadan-Lagos Expressway, near the Saapad Bridge in Ogun State. The accident involved a white Sinotruk CNHTC truck and a white Toyota Hiace bus with registration number EKI 290 YM.

According to Afolabi Odunsi, spokesman for the Ogun State Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC), 18 individuals were involved in the crash, comprising 15 adult males, two adult females, and one male child. The crash resulted in the deaths of ten individuals, including nine adult males and one male child, while six others sustained varying degrees of injuries.

Two adult males escaped unhurt. Preliminary investigations indicated that the crash was caused by a combination of speeding, wrong overtaking, and dangerous driving.

The truck driver reportedly reversed on the highway at high speed, attempting to navigate a limited space. The Ogun FRSC promptly conducted rescue operations, evacuating the injured to a hospital and depositing the deceased at a mortuary in Ipara.

Oludar Ogunjobi, sector commander, expressed condolences to the families of the deceased and warned motorists against dangerous driving practices.
