Eight Dead, 17 Injured in Katsina Road Accident

On [date not specified], a tragic road accident occurred at approximately 1:32 PM on the Katsina-Funtua route, resulting in the deaths of eight individuals and injuries to 17 others. The crash involved a commercial Toyota Hiace bus with registration number 14B 92 TR and a Bajaj tricycle.

According to Dr. Shamsudeen Babajo, the public education officer of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) Katsina Sector Command, the accident involved 25 people, comprising 16 adult males, four adult females, two male children, and three female children.

Among the injured, 15 were adult males, and two were adult females, while the deceased included two adult males, two adult females, three female children, and one male child. The injured victims suffered fractures and deep lacerations.

Preliminary investigations indicated that wrong overtaking was a likely cause of the crash. The FRSC rescue team collaborated with community watch corps to evacuate victims to Bakori Comprehensive Hospital for treatment, while the bodies of the deceased were deposited at the General Hospital in Funtua.

The FRSC urged motorists to avoid dangerous overtaking and strictly adhere to traffic regulations to prevent road crashes.
