Olawepo-Hashim Condemns Ekiti Church Attack and Abductions

Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim, a former presidential candidate and energy entrepreneur, condemned the killing of a pastor and the abduction of worshippers during an attack at Christ Apostolic Church No. 2 in Eda Oniyo, Ilejemeje Local Government Area, Ekiti State. The incident occurred during a revival program at approximately 7:30 PM, where seven armed suspects reportedly opened fire, killing a guest pastor and abducting no fewer than 13 worshippers.

Eyewitness accounts described the attack lasting about 40 minutes, causing panic among residents who fled the community. Olawepo-Hashim expressed his grief over the loss of life and the abduction of innocent worshippers, urging solidarity with the affected families.

He raised concerns about the delayed security response despite distress calls during the attack, emphasizing the need for proactive intelligence-driven approaches to tackle insecurity. He called on security agencies to intensify efforts to rescue the abducted victims and ensure the arrest and prosecution of the perpetrators, highlighting the rising insecurity in rural communities, particularly in the southwest and north.
