Police Deploy Officers for Ekiti Governorship Election

The Nigeria Police Force has completed the deployment of security personnel across 2,545 polling units in Ekiti State in preparation for the governorship election scheduled for Saturday, June 20, 2026. The Commissioner of Police, Shogun Abayomi, stated that a multi-layered security architecture has been adopted to guarantee a peaceful, credible, and hitch-free electoral process.

Security personnel will be strategically positioned to ensure the safety of voters, electoral officials, and observers. Abayomi emphasized the importance of compliance with electoral laws and warned against actions that could undermine the integrity of the electoral process, which would attract appropriate sanctions under the Electoral Act.

He urged eligible voters to exercise their constitutional rights peacefully and without fear of intimidation. The Inspector General of Police, Olatunji Disu, assured the public that adequate briefings have been provided to officers on their responsibilities during the election.

A dedicated emergency line has been established for citizens to report security concerns throughout the election period.
