Ekiti State Deploys Security for Governorship Election

Ahead of the governorship election in Ekiti State scheduled for Saturday, the Nigeria Police Force has announced the deployment of four security personnel to each of the 2,445 polling units across the state. Police Commissioner Abayomi Shogunle disclosed this at the Ekiti State Police Command headquarters in Ado Ekiti, emphasizing that the security measures aim to guarantee a peaceful and credible election.

The police will impose restrictions on vehicular movement from 12 AM to 6 PM on election day. The security arrangements are built around an operational order approved by Inspector General of Police Tunji Disu, designed to prevent any breach of peace during the polls.

Additionally, three personnel will remain at the police office, while others will assist in the transport of sensitive and non-sensitive electoral materials. The police have already stationed personnel at local government headquarters to guard materials and ensure their safe delivery to polling units.

The security framework includes collaboration with local vigilante groups, although groups like Amotekun and Agro Rangers will not participate in the election security operations.
