INEC Chairman Calls for Discipline Ahead of 2026 Elections

The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Prof. Joash Amupitan, called for discipline among the commission's staff in anticipation of the 2026 governorship elections in Ekiti and Osun states.

In a message issued by the Chief Press Secretary, Adedayo Oketola, Amupitan emphasized the need for integrity and accountability among the 14,000 staff nationwide, adopting a zero-tolerance stance towards misconduct. He described the upcoming elections as a crucial test ahead of the 2027 general elections and urged staff to reflect on the values of patience, integrity, and empathy, particularly during the Ramadan season.

Amupitan also announced the introduction of stricter compliance measures and technological innovations, including a bimodal voter accreditation system and an INEC results viewing portal, to enhance transparency and credibility in the electoral process. He reaffirmed the administration's commitment to staff welfare and the importance of maintaining motivation against external pressures.
