ICPC Arrests El-Rufai's Doctor for Violating Court Order

The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) announced the arrest of Prof. Bello Abubakar, the personal physician of former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, for allegedly making false statements concerning El-Rufai's medical visit.

The ICPC claimed that El-Rufai violated court conditions that approved his medical visit while in custody. The Kaduna State High Court has scheduled an accelerated hearing for the criminal charges against El-Rufai on July 6, 7, and 8, 2026, after he failed to appear in court.

The prosecution informed the court that El-Rufai did not request to see a doctor beforehand and had no health complaints. The ICPC further alleged that photographs posted on social media showed El-Rufai receiving visitors during his medical consultation, which was outside the scope of the court's approval.

The court has adjourned the matter until July 15, 2026, to hear El-Rufai's application seeking the recusal of the presiding judge, Justice Dariu Khobo.
