Sowore Demands Probe into Alleged Killing of Dadiyata

Human rights activist Omoyele Sowore has urged for an independent probe into the alleged killing of Kaduna-based activist Abubakar Idris, popularly known as Dadiyata. Sowore's demand follows a recent move by the Nigeria Police Force to reopen investigations into the long-standing case.

He expressed skepticism regarding the police's capability to conduct an impartial investigation, particularly given the involvement of influential political figures such as former Kaduna State Governor Nasir El-Rufai, former Kano State Governor Abdullahi Umar Ganduje, former Director General of the Department of State Services (DSS) Yusuf Bichi, and former Attorney General of the Federation Abubakar Malami. Sowore made these statements in a Facebook post on Saturday, emphasizing that the public cannot trust the Nigeria Police Force to handle such a high-profile case impartially.

Dadiyata was abducted by unidentified persons in Kaduna State in August 2019, and his whereabouts remain unknown despite ongoing calls from civil society groups and family members for a thorough investigation.
