Kwankwaso Demands Probe and Compensation for Dadiyata

Rabiu Kwankwaso, the former governor of Kano and a presidential aspirant for the Nigeria Democratic Congress, has called for a comprehensive investigation into the 2019 abduction of social media activist Abubakar Idri Dadiyata. Following a recent directive from the Inspector General of Police, Kwankwaso demanded compensation for Dadiyata's family and urged the police to conduct a thorough investigation into the case.

He emphasized the need for surveillance on individuals associated with the case to prevent interference. This statement followed a petition filed by human rights lawyer Abba Fagg, which requested an independent investigation into the alleged involvement of two senior police officers in Dadiyata's disappearance.

Dadiyata, a lecturer in English Linguistics at the Federal University Dutsin-Ma in Katsina State, was abducted on August 2, 2019, from his home in Barnawa, Kaduna. He was known for being a fierce critic of Kano Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, who, along with former Kaduna Governor Nasir El-Rufai, has denied involvement in the disappearance.
