El-Rufai Interrogated by EFCC Amid Corruption Allegations

Nasir El-Rufai, the former governor of Kaduna State, is under interrogation by the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) concerning allegations of corruption during his administration from 2015 to 2023. An EFCC source confirmed that El-Rufai is cooperating with investigators, and his legal counsel, Ubong Akpan, has described the attempted arrest as unjustified, arguing it infringes on constitutional rights.

The situation escalated on Monday, leading to protests at the EFCC headquarters in Jabi, Abuja, where two groups demonstrated—one supporting El-Rufai and the other urging the EFCC to take the allegations seriously. The protests included chants of solidarity for El-Rufai, while some members of his entourage were reportedly prevented from entering the commission's offices.

EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale called for calm and assured that the commission would handle the matter appropriately. The outcome of the interrogation may lead to possible arraignment depending on the findings.
