El-Rufai's Family Protests His Detention Amid Health Concerns

Mallam Nasir El-Rufai, the former Governor of Kaduna State, is currently detained by the Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) since February 18, 2026, facing allegations related to economic and financial crimes. His family has protested against his detention, citing concerns over his health and access to medical care, which the ICPC has denied.

A video featuring his wife, Aisa El-Rufai, accused ICPC officials of violating a court order that allows family members to deliver food to him. She expressed fears of constant surveillance and harassment from security agencies.

El-Rufai's son, Bello, criticized the stringent bail conditions imposed on his father, claiming they are politically motivated and designed to keep him in custody. The African Democratic Congress, represented by Bolaji Abdullahi, has raised concerns about El-Rufai's deteriorating health and the psychological impact of his detention, calling for his immediate release and restoration of access to medical services.
