INEC Chairman Assures Neutrality for 2027 Elections

On Tuesday, at the National Peace Accord ahead of the 2027 presidential election, Professor Josiah Amupitan, the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), assured political parties and Nigerians of the commission's neutrality. He stated, “INEC has no interest in who wins or loses any election.

The commission does not have a candidate, nor does it favour any political platform.” Amupitan encouraged political parties and candidates to concentrate on issues during the campaign, advocating for a focus on solutions rather than personal attacks. He emphasized that Nigerians seek clear and measurable manifestos, stating, “Nigerians do not want insults; they want solutions.” Furthermore, he reported that INEC is progressing in its preparations for the 2027 elections, scaling operational logistics to manage a nationwide ad hoc workforce of 1.4 million personnel across over 176,000 polling units, ensuring a credible electoral process.
