INEC Official Acknowledges Glitches in Electoral Technology

Muhammed Haruna, an official from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), stated that there will always be glitches in electoral processes, especially with the gradual implementation of technology. He made these remarks during an interview on Trust TV, responding to the recent signing of amendments to the Electoral Act by President Bola Tinubu.

The amendments were passed by the National Assembly and signed into law within 24 hours. Haruna emphasized that while technology is crucial for improving electoral processes, it also presents challenges, particularly given existing infrastructural issues.

He noted that misunderstandings about technology could lead to difficulties in transmitting results, especially with the introduction of additional technological layers for aggregating data from polling units to ward levels. This complexity may exacerbate existing problems in the electoral system.
