Atiku Accuses Tinubu of Adopting His Power Blueprint

Atiku Abubakar, the former Vice President of Nigeria and Presidential Candidate of the African Democratic Congress, stated that President Bola Tinubu has finally adopted his 21-year-old power sector blueprint as a solution to Nigeria's electricity supply challenges. This assertion was made through Atiku's spokesperson, Phrank Shaibu, in a statement on Sunday.

Atiku noted that the recent comments by Minister of Power, Joseph Tegbe, indicating that Nigeria can no longer rely solely on large, centralized power plants, represent a late endorsement of the decentralized electricity generation model he advocated over two decades ago. He criticized the Tinubu administration for taking three years to recognize what he deemed obvious and for raising tariffs before considering necessary reforms.

Atiku emphasized that during his tenure as Vice President, he urged President Olusegun Obasanjo to decentralize electricity generation by utilizing Nigeria's diverse energy resources, including hydroelectric dams, solar, and gas.
