Emir of Gumel, Alhaji Dr Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, Dies

Alhaji Dr Ahmed Muhammad Sani II, the Emir of Gumel in Jigawa State, died in Cairo, Egypt, on September 3, 2026. His death was announced by Prof Isa Ali Pantami, the former Minister of Communications and Digital Economy, in a condolence message shared on Thursday.

The late emir had a long reign, serving as the Emir of Gumel from December 16, 1980, until his death. Pantami described him as a distinguished scholar and a beacon of wisdom, noting his dedication to the service of his people, promotion of peace and education, and preservation of cultural values.

Pantami extended heartfelt condolences to the immediate family of the late emir, the Gumel Emirate Council, the Sultan of Sokoto, Alhaji Muhammad Sa’ad Abubakar III, the Government and people of Jigawa State, and the entire nation. He prayed for the repose of the monarch’s soul and for the family and people of Gumel and Jigawa State to have the strength to bear the loss.
