Emir of Zazzau Supports 100% Salary Increase for Rulers

Ambassador Ahmed Bamalli, the Emir of Zazzau and Chairman of the Kaduna State Council of Chiefs, has expressed support for a proposed 100% increase in the salaries and allowances of traditional rulers in Kaduna State. He described the proposed increment as a “welcome relief,” emphasizing that the current remuneration is insufficient due to the rising cost of living and the declining value of the naira.

Bamalli made these remarks on Friday while addressing journalists at his palace in Zaria, Kaduna State. He noted that the proposal has been in the works for approximately seven months, with efforts from Governor Uba Sani and the Commissioner for Local Government and Chieftaincy Affairs, Sadiq Mamman-Lagos, towards its implementation.

Bamalli praised the government’s commitment to the traditional institution and highlighted the importance of traditional rulers in governance, particularly in conflict resolution and community mobilization. He also mentioned that the Zazzau Emirate has successfully resolved over 2,000 civil cases through its alternative dispute resolution mechanism in the past two years.
