Nwude and Lawyers Sentenced for Property Fraud in Lagos

Emmanuel Nwude, along with lawyers Emmanuel Ilechukwu and Rowland Kalu, was sentenced to one year in prison for property fraud by Justice Mojisola Dada at the Ikeja Special Offences Court. The court convicted them on 13 counts, including forgery and conspiracy to defraud, stemming from a case that traces back to a 2005 judgment by Justice J.O.K.

Oyewole. This judgment ordered Nwude's company, Emru Auto Nigeria Limited, to forfeit properties used to defraud Banco Noroeste in São Paulo, Brazil.

The defendants were arraigned in March 2018 on a 15-count charge, which included conspiracy and forgery. Following a lengthy trial with multiple hearings and appeals, the court found them guilty and ordered the forfeiture of properties to compensate the victims.

Nwude was acquitted on two counts related to false statements to a public officer. The judgment emphasizes the judiciary's commitment to enforcing property restitution orders and penalizing attempts to undermine court rulings.
