Team Nigeria Begins Medal Quest at African Athletics Championship

Team Nigeria is set to begin its pursuit of medals at the 2026 African Senior Athletics Championship today at the Ghana Sport Complex in Accra. The championship, which is the 24th edition of Africa's elite athletics competition, will feature a total of 41 Nigerian athletes, comprising 17 males and 24 females.

The events scheduled to kick off include the decathlon, men's shot put, women's discus, and various track events such as the 100m and 400m heats. The competition is expected to showcase Nigeria's depth of talent, with notable athletes like world record holder Tobi Amusan participating.

The Director General of the National Sports Commission, Bukola Olopade, expressed confidence in the athletes' ability to represent the nation with discipline and patriotism, emphasizing the growth of Nigerian athletics on both the continental and global stages.
