Enekwechi Withdraws from African Championships in Accra

Chukwuebuka Enekwechi, a three-time African champion, has officially withdrawn from the African Championships taking place in Accra, Ghana, from May 12 to 17. His withdrawal was confirmed on Monday, leaving Nigeria's team without a key shot put competitor.

The reason for Enekwechi's absence remains unclear, and he joins other notable athletes like Jessica Oji and Jami Schlueter, who are also unable to compete due to visa issues. Enekwechi recently participated in the Simbin Classic in South Africa, where he achieved a season's best throw of 21.74m, finishing second at the Drake Relays on April 24.

He made his African Championship debut in Asaba in 2018 and has won the title in the last three editions, becoming the first African to break the 22m barrier with a throw of 22.10m. Meanwhile, Tobi Amusan is set to pursue her third African 100m hurdles title at the same championships.
