Danbatta Becomes New President of Nigerian Academy of Engineering

On Saturday, the Nigerian Academy of Engineering held a ceremony in Lagos to inaugurate Prof. Umar Danbatta as its 14th president.

Danbatta, the former Executive Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Communications Commission, introduced a four-point agenda aimed at transforming engineering education, promoting industrialization, and strengthening infrastructure management. He emphasized the need for collaboration between academia and industry, mentorship strategies, and partnerships aligned with the academy's strategic plan for 2024-2028.

The event also featured the induction of 12 new fellows and the presentation of a lifetime achievement award. Danbatta pledged to enhance partnerships that equip graduates with practical skills relevant to industry.

He aims to address challenges in power supply, broadband expansion, and climate change through home-grown technological solutions. The immediate past president, Prof.

Rahamon Bello, noted the academy's ongoing role in promoting engineering research and stakeholder engagement. The ceremony included calls for increased investment in engineering education and innovation to drive economic growth.
