Akintey Babatund Elected New NANS President in Abuja

Akintey Babatund from Olusegun Agagu University of Science and Technology (OAUSTECH) has been elected as the new president of the National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) following a successful election at the 2026 national convention held at Old Parade Ground, Abuja. The election featured five presidential candidates, with Akintey emerging victorious against a keenly contested field.

The outgoing president, Olushola Oladoja, completed his tenure and expressed gratitude for the peaceful conduct of the elections, which were overseen by the Independent Convention Planning Committee chaired by Omotayo Samuel. The convention saw participation from 300 delegates, including student union government presidents and leaders from tertiary institutions across Nigeria.

Akintey pledged to sustain the achievements of the outgoing administration and promote unity among Nigerian students. Oladoja described the election as a historic moment, emphasizing the absence of violence or disputes throughout the process.
